Your Guide to Washing a UTV
If you’ve recently bought a UTV, you may not realize just how dirty these machines can get. However, mud and dirt build up very quickly and you’ll need to wash your machine regularly to keep it in good condition. For a step-by-step guide on how to clean your UTV, as well as other helpful tips and advice, read through our article below.
When Should I Wash My UTV?
Because they’re often being driven through mud, dirt, and sand, UTVs tend to get dirty very quickly. If dried mud is allowed to sit on your UTV for an extended period of time, it’s very likely to damage your vehicle’s finish, or even cause rusting. To avoid this, we advise giving your UTV a thorough rinse after every ride. If you have a pressure washer or a hose with high water pressure, this should remove the majority of stuck-on dirt and grime on your UTV. However, if your hose simply isn’t blasting all that built-up muck away, it may be time to break out the scrub brush and get to work.
What Tools Do I Need?
To wash your UTV more thoroughly, you’ll want to grab a sponge, a stiff brush, and an automotive cleanser or bike soap. If your model is beginning to look greasy, or you haven’t applied a coat of polish in over six months, you may also want to purchase some spray-on wax or a degreaser—just be sure not to get any on your seats.
How Do I Wash My UTV?
If you’ve already sprayed down your vehicle only to find the majority of mud and gunk hasn’t rinsed away, you may need to grab a small scraper tool and set to work removing it by hand. Once this is done you can grab a wet sponge and your cleanser and set to work on the body of your machine. Use your stiff brush to remove more difficult stains or spots, and be sure to dry your UTV completely before grabbing your polish and spraying down a quick coat.
